School Athletic Associations site at www.iahsaa.org SPOTLIGHT ON GAIL CARLSON My initial response when asked if I would do a
write-up on myself was "No!! Don't ask me to follow Arlen!!!"
(You are too cool Arlen.) But
alas, here it goes.
I was raised on a farm near Scranton along with nine brothers and one
sister. Throughout my school years I excelled in spelling and was
shattered when I came to the realization in my teen years that there were few
career opportunities for good spellers.
Thus I found myself in Boone, Iowa attending DMACC to become an
administrative secretary. I
completed my studies but loved the college life so I continued on another year,
taking general courses and finding out where all of the good parties were.
I made some wonderful friends and came to love the thriving metropolis of
Boone, which actually had stores that stayed open all night!
I have two children and one husband.
Sadie, my daughter, is 6 and is in the first grade.
She is working toward her yellow belt in Tae Kwando and is quite the
little artist. Max, my son, is
2-1/2, and the only art he manages is on himself whenever he gets his hands on a
marker. My children and I are all
left handed which is rather fun as it makes my husband, Eric, the minority.
Eric plays bass guitar in the band Silas Marner, which is one of my
favorite pastimes. I love to hear
them create new songs and watch them perform.
Other favorites are playing Scrabble (kind of ties in with that spelling
thing), reading and sitting around the table talking with friends.
I love to cook but hate to do the dishes.
A friend and I have always threatened to write a book.
We have the title and the subject matter, now all we are lacking is the
drive. Maybe someday I will be
published. I had a tough time starting this little story and now I don't want to stop. I leave you with these thoughts. Thank you for your time and if life gives you lemons … squeeze them. Everybody vote! CURRENT EVENTS
Joe Williams had to come back to work from his
vacation this summer for stress relief. He
had nothing but vehicle problems on his trip to Minnesota.
Better luck next year, Joe.
Our picnic at the Ledges was a success.
Good food and good company. It
was nice to see a few former Heinrich employees there - Russ Buchman and Carol
Fisher.
Teddy Elsberry's daughter-in-law, Vikki Elsberry, is opening a new shop
in downtown Boone - Creations by Lowe Berry.
Good luck Vikki!
Bev Swore took a week's vacation to visit family in California and
Arizona.
The Freedom Rally in Humboldt was enjoyed by Steve and Lori Miller, Wayne
Gildea, Rich Higgins and Doug Kinsey.
Steve Miller, Tony Baldus and Arlen Peter all enjoyed Chicago Cubs games
this summer but at different times. Each
one saw Sammy Sosa hit a home run.
There were quite a few kids and grandkids of Heinrich employees who
received Goeppinger awards this year. Congratulations
to all of them and keep up the good work.
Wayne Gildea and Doug Kinsey joined hundreds of thousands of other
motorcycle enthusiasts in Sturgis, South Dakota this summer.
Doug also went on to "Burn Out" Wednesday in Sundance, Wyoming. Bev
and Jerry Swore are driving to New York with five others for the wedding of
their daughter Tami Beery to Joseph Poole on October 6, 2000. |
