COMPUTER NEWS

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A HOME COMPUTER - By Brett Corrick, Software Solutions 1) What do you want to use your computer for? One of the more popular uses of the home computer today is access to the Internet and e-mail capabilities. Other uses are word processing and playing games. Whatever the desired use of the computer, will depend on the requirements which you need to shop for. 2) How often do you foresee using your computer? Are you going to casually use your computer, or do you see yourself using your computer everyday. Again, depending on how often you use your computer will input your decision on how much you're going to invest. 3) What is your budget? Do you want to buy an entry-level computer or a powerhouse computer? Computers with a monitor can range anywhere from $800.00 to $3,000.00, depending on how many extras you purchase with your computer. 4) How long do you plan to keep the computer? With today's rapid change of technology, the life expectancy of a computer is between three to five years. Anytime after two to three years of age, most computers are going to need some upgrading of components along with adding of new components.

GUESS WHO
Answer is on the last page.
1931. The text was written by the American lawyer and poet Francis Scott Key on board a British frigate during the British bombardment of Ft. McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1814. Key had board the ship under a lag of truce to arrange for the release of a prisoner held by the British during the War of 1812 and had been temporarily detained during the attack. The sight of the flag still flying on the following morning inspired Key to write the poem. First printed in a handbill and then in a Baltimore newspaper, it soon became a popular song, sung to the tune of the drinking song "To Anacreon in Heaven", which was attributed to the British composer John Stafford Smith.

That being said, here is my opinion. This has little to do with sporting events. In fact, lets get rid of it at most sporting events and save it for the more important events. I don't think I am unpatriotic but do we need to hear it at every sporting event from kindergarten on? I had a son and daughter playing ball on the same night a few years ago and I would hear it two times a night. That takes away from the meaning of it for me. Some schools use poor tape recordings, some use very fine student singers to sing it. How about we save it for special events like Olympic gold, Super Bowls, World Series, etc. I have heard people ruin it (Roseanne Barr) and some perfect it (Whitney Houston), but I don't believe the national anthem needs to be played at EVERY sporting event. It has reached the point where athletes and spectators do not pay much respect to it anymore. I believe it has its place and should be hard, but I would like to see it used only for the special things so it is taken more seriously. Thank you.
